There were a few of us who mourned the quiet death of Brooklyn duo Call Florence Pow, but if you’re like me, it hit you hard. One day you were putting “Creepy Girls” on your hundredth mix and you looked around and wondered aloud “What happened?” You cried. Hard, cold, existential tears. And then you wondered what revenge would be like. Brian Jacobs and David Tobias have returned with a new, even more theatrical live band and a fifty-minute masterpiece of gizmo rock, metal schlock and viciously danceable tunage. Blood Moon taps the same Zappaesque vein as the duo’s former work, but pushes their prog sensibilities and their apparently-scholarly interest in early Prince records. It's Sparks produced by the Bomb Squad with Alan Parsons on the boards and if that doesn’t sound like a hot fuck to you, you don’t deserve it. “We Don’t Understand You” might end up being the most unstoppable dorkfloor banger of 2008, but “Hot Kathy” will be the one we’re asking played at our funerals. Get this album. Also: Immediately hit YouTube for a plethora of amazing live clips (Korean drum circles and cheerleaders!) and check out their cover of aforementioned Call Florence Pow song, available on the band’s MySpace.
