By Saniyyah Bilal

Designer Mary Huang is really making a fashion statement with her lit-clothing exploration “Rhyme & Reason.” She literally uses lights as garments by incorporating them into daily attire, such as a dress or a scarf. It may seem unusual and hard to imagine wearing lights on your body, but Huang has proven these opinions wrong with her unique designs. In addition, the line is not only used for wear but can also be used for a little light at night. When the moon comes out, each piece transforms into a whole different work of art.

But how practical are these designs? Despite the uniqueness and ingenuity of the line, they may not make it past the clothing racks. Using them for lights are a great idea, having different shaped and designed lamps would be great for the racks in IKEA maybe. However, a lot of designers do make abstract clothing that will most likely not be seen anywhere but on the runway. Fashion is always looking for some outrageous design and designers are constantly putting their creative skills to the limit and Huang has pushed the aesthetics of clothing to the limit despite the impracticalities of what she designed. And, really—clothes for just one purpose? That wouldn’t be any fun now would it.
